An accomplished athlete and active sports enthusiast, Mark Hermes is a homegrown talent, originally from Apple Valley, MN. With a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from North Dakota State University and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago, he joins the team with a deep commitment to individual care, fundamental at Orthology.
Developing his considerable skills as a practitioner in an outpatient orthopedic clinic, Mark has worked with a wide range of patients—and has treated an array of conditions and injuries. Fine-tuning his manual therapy techniques and tailoring exercise progressions for every patient that he treats are key. As he says, it’s “individualized care focusing on functionality to meet their specific goals.” He’s a great believer in the tried-and-true aphorism that so many of his colleagues adhere to: “Motion is lotion.”
Mark brings something special to Orthology’s sports medicine practice—he’s a first rate athlete, and understands fully what active people go through when injured. A Division 1 college baseball pitcher at NDSU, he gave a “throwing mechanics” lecture and demonstration during his post-graduate studies in Chicago. His passion for sports goes hand-in-hand with his passion as a caregiver. “Being able to witness people participate in activities or sports that they love–that they weren’t able to previously because of an injury” is the most rewarding part of his work as a PT.
Mark seems to be a natural when it comes to his chosen profession. Those who know him well describe him as “loyal.” He’s always there when needed, steadfast, doing for others. Sounds like the perfect quality for a successful physical therapist.
He works hard, but he plays hard, too. So when not at work tending to the needs of others, Mark enjoys a round of golf– but basketball is still his favorite!
